How to Buy a Suppressor
Buying a Suppressor,Made Simple.
The paperwork looks intimidating from the outside. It isn't, once someone walks you through it. Here's exactly how the process works, from picking your suppressor to walking out the door with it.
Lawson & Cooper Arms handles your fingerprinting, trust preparation, and eForm filing under one roof — no bouncing between three different vendors to get one suppressor.
Quick Facts
Here's What Changed in 2026
Federal Tax Stamp
As of January 1, 2026, the $200 NFA tax on suppressors is permanently gone. You still file the same paperwork — you just don't pay the tax.
States Where It's Legal
Suppressors are legal to own in 42 states, Alabama included, as long as you meet the federal requirements.
Than It Used to Be
eForm 4 approvals have run anywhere from about a week to a few months since the 2026 changes took effect, depending on ATF volume. We'll give you our current best estimate when you apply.
The Process
From Selection to Pickup
Choose Your Suppressor
Pick a suppressor rated for your caliber and confirm it fits your firearm's thread pattern. We'll help you match it up.
Individual or Trust
Decide how you want to register the item. Through our partnership with 10scan and National Gun Trusts, we can generate an attorney-drafted NFA trust for you on the spot if that's the route you'd rather take.
Fingerprints & Photo
We take your Live Scan fingerprints and passport-style photo on-site — required for you, and for every responsible person if you're using a trust.
We File Your eForm 4
We submit your ATF eForm 4 electronically — no signature or extra trip required from you. Buy your suppressor from us and this, your fingerprinting, and your EFT file are all on the house.
Wait for Approval
Your suppressor stays with us while the ATF reviews your application. We'll let you know the moment it's approved.
Pick Up Your Suppressor
Come in for your appointment, complete your Form 4473 and background check, and take your new suppressor home.
What It Costs
Every Fee, Laid Out
These are our fees for the services involved — not including the price of the suppressor itself.
NFA Fingerprinting & EFT File
Digital Live Scan fingerprints and EFT file for your eForm 4. Free if you buy your suppressor from us.
EFT File + Trust Bundle
Your EFT file and an attorney-drafted NFA trust, done together in one visit. Trust generated through our partnership with 10scan and National Gun Trusts.
NFA Compliance Marking
Required for Form 1 builds — not needed for a factory-marked suppressor you're transferring in.
Already Own an NFA Item Elsewhere? Your File Still Pays Off Here
If you already have your own EFT file, your next Title II transfer through us drops from $75 to $35 — and that same file works for every future purchase, with any dealer. See everything your file can do.
